In the photo, it was glaringly obvious to Thomas that his wife had taken off her wedding ring. Even when things were difficult in their relationship in the past, she had never taken off her ring. Thomas spent months of his salary on the shimmering diamond that Iris treasured as soon as she laid her eyes upon it, so taking it off for long periods of time was no small gesture.
