The Confrontation
It took the Petrovs a few days to work up the strength to go and confront Mr. Thompson. They were devastated and it was going to take a lot to even look their neighbor in the eye after what he had done.
Finally, Andrey headed round and knocked at the door, a false cheery look plastered to his face. Mr. Thompson opened it, looking wary. “Mr. Thompson, I’m sure you’ve noticed our lovely old oak has been torn down. I wondered if you knew anything about it?” Andrey said in a forced casual tone. He watched the smug look fall from Mr. Thompson’s face. He could tell his neighbor knew he’d been caught.
