Feeling Guilty
Lucas was gripped by a sense of guilt that he failed Liberty and all his coworkers. He knew preventing it had been impossible, but the vandals had been so sneaky that he was concerned they might not catch them if they returned.
The crew could only keep cleaning Liberty’s foot for so long before the damage became permanent. Lucas was struggling to sleep – he was either thinking about the incident or about what more could be done to prevent another one.
His patience was wearing thin. Weeks had passed, but the police hadn’t found any clues worth following.
