The detail he noticed was minute, but he was certain that a darker color was overshadowing the statue’s usual blue-green. But Lucas couldn’t see much more from so far away – he’d have to get out his binoculars or go down there himself.
He stretched over the railing as he peered through the binoculars, instantly confirming what he had suspected. Something had been done to Liberty’s foot. Was it something new, or had age simply revealed another secret?
