The bag was heavier than he anticipated. Trying to keep his balance, he lifted the suitcase from the ground with two hands and hoisted it above the steps. “What in the world is in here?”, he asked out of breath.
“Nothing!”, she quickly responded. “Just clothes – everything was on sale!” She gave a hesitant laugh. Clothes couldn’t possibly have been as cumbersome. He had to figure out what she was concealing.
