58. Lied To My Face
We had been together for a couple of years, had a house, were engaged, and were planning a wedding. Both of us had good jobs, and things were going great in my eyes. No fighting, no major issues.
We went out of town to go to my best friend’s wedding, which was also near her hometown. I was the best man, so very occupied with that, and she spent part of the time with her friends while we were there.
After being at my friend’s wedding, I was even more excited about our upcoming wedding. We flew back across the country, walked in the front door, and she broke up with zero explanation. Just bam, over. I was devastated. Based on her actions during the break-up and shortly afterward, I think she had been cheating on me with someone from work and probably got the nudge to break it off from her friends.
Within a year, she was getting married to someone from work and moved out of state. She is the only ex that I ever cut off 100% and told that I never want to see or speak to them again.
Fast forward 25 years, and I just had my 20th anniversary with my wife, whom I met a couple of years after the break-up. We are doing great, and life is good.
So it goes.
