She Grabbed the Letter
Doris got suspicious over time. She felt uneasy about the funeral postponement and military’s silence. Doris needed to read her son’s parting letter. She knew it would be hard to read, but she needed to know what Bob wanted to say before he died. She walked upstairs and locked her bedroom door that night.
She took the letter from her nightstand and read it. Just the thought of reading her son’s final words was both consoling and sad. She took a deep breath and read the letter, expecting to find closure and accept her son’s death, but what she found shocked her.
