Telling Stories
With Emily dressed, Laura ushered her daughter downstairs to the kitchen. Over bowls of cereal and glasses of orange juice, they chatted about the upcoming day. Laura inquired about Emily’s school activities, and Emily excitedly shared stories about her friends and the fascinating things they were learning. But not once did she mention anything that might explain the mud that clung to her shoes every afternoon.
