Despite continued efforts to alleviate the situation, Craiova has earned the moniker “European Capital of Canine Cruelty.” The institutions set up to correct street dogs aren’t much better, owing to the huge amount of abuse claims against them.
There have been several reports in Craiova about animal shelters treating their animals cruelly. The Craiovan shelter is trying to resolve the situation, despite these reports.
