Johnson and his team have theorized that major world catastrophes, like an asteroid strike, occur thousands of years apart from one another. If that were the case, then humanity should be safe for the time being, but Johnson knows that space is unpredictable and he doesn’t want to risk being wrong. There have been many collisions and close encounters with massive space rocks over the years, after all. And all it would take is one unlucky strike to wipe out a major metropolitan city.
