There was a lot of work that needed to be done on Ralph.
Ralph avoided Lacey completely on the journey home. She was realistic about the effort required to restore the dog’s confidence in humans and bring forth his former, joyous personality. As confident as Lacey was, she soon realized that her optimism was misplaced.
