Estranged
As the years went by, the children and their parents became increasingly estranged. They declined to accept assistance from or a first-day visit from their parents when they moved away for college. The kids’ desire to interact with their parents as little as possible became apparent to them.
They were heartbroken by this, but they knew their hands were tied. They did their best to stay in contact with them and always invited them home. But each time, the children would object. The pair kept asking themselves incessantly, “What have we done wrong?” And then a terrible incident occurred one day.
