Our instructor in elementary school had the brilliant idea of picking a name to make a card for. I was ecstatic because I chose my crush and sent her the card I prepared, but all I got in return was a thank-you note.
My crush invited me to lunch on Valentine’s Day a few years later, which piqued my interest. As I waited for her, I received a text from her stating, “Thanks, Pete, but I won’t be able to make it.” I had returned to Middle School.
