14. I’m Not A Maid
At the college where I worked, a student from Puerto Rico told a story about how she really wanted to attend our institution from an early age. She was accepted and excitedly began her first few days on campus, a predominantly white and wealthy college.
In the dorm, one of her floormates stopped her in the hall and asked her what days she cleaned their rooms and if she also did their laundry. The woman was devastated and almost dropped out, but she persevered and graduated in four years.
