By 1967, opposition against the U.S. war in Vietnam reached the national level. Large-scale anti-war protests erupted in the streets of New York, San Francisco, and many cities all over the nation. This photo comes from an anti-Vietnam War march in San Francisco on April 15th, 1967. Meanwhile, on that same day, New Yorkers protested in Central Park, where they burned more than 150 draft cards. This was the anti-war movement’s first big demonstration, marking a turning point for the movement.
