Here we have a demonstrator offering a flower to military personnel guarding the Pentagon. This demonstration occurred in October 1967 during the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam’s “March on the Pentagon.” These flowers were meant to be a visual representation of defiance during the era. The use of nonviolent objects was intended to show that the protests were not rooted in anger or violence. Eight years after this, the Vietnam War would come to an end.
