Armstrong’s photograph of Aldrin
We all know that Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. At the time, the United States and the Soviet Union were competing against each other in the so-called “Space Race.” In 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin made history by becoming the first human in space. In this photo by Neil Armstrong from 1969, we can see Buzz Aldrin saluting the deployed United States flag on the Moon’s surface. They returned to Earth with the first samples of another planetary body.
