A defining moment for the counterculture generation
In 1969, the country was as divided as ever because of the controversial Vietnam War and the general civil unrest. That year’s Woodstock Festival was seen as an escape for the young people who opposed the war. Woodstock is heavily regarded as one of pop music’s most important events. It practically defined the counterculture generation. The festival lasted for three days with 32 acts performing, including Jimi Hendrix and The Who. Despite the rain, the music festival attracted more than 400,000 people.
