The first-ever female president Isabel Perón
Nobody expected Isabel Perón to become president. But when her husband, Argentine President Juan Perón passed away while in office, she became head of state. She served as president of Argentina from 1974 to 1976. Perón holds the distinction of being the first woman to have the title of “president.” The military would later take over the government and place her under house arrest. Seen here are Romanian President Nicolae Ceaușescu and his wife, Elena, together with Presidents Juan and Isabel Perón back in 1974.
