Nixon flashing the victory gesture
The Watergate scandal has gone down in history as one of the most infamous political scandals in American history. At the time of the investigation, the administration had continuously resisted probes. This eventually led to a constitutional crisis, prompting Nixon to resign in 1974. This photo was taken as Nixon was leaving the White House, gesturing his “victory” signal to the cameras. This was one of Nixon’s best-known trademarks, which he used during the Vietnam War. President Gerald Ford would eventually pardon him for Watergate.
