Glam rock rose to prominence
Glam rock is characterized by outrageous costumes, makeup, and hairstyles. Another common theme among glam rockers are the platform shoes and, well, all that glitter. Popularized by the likes of David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Alice Cooper, and Elton John, it is a style of rock music that emerged in the early ’70s. The trend started out in the United Kingdom. From 1971 to 1975, the U.K. charts were filled with glam rock acts. Glam rock would start to fade away by the middle of the decade.
