Jim Jones receives MLK award
The infamous Reverend Jim Jones is seen here receiving a Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award at Glide Memorial Church back in 1977. Photographed with him is Pastor Cecil Williams. This award was usually given to individuals who have had significant contributions towards brotherhood, sisterhood, and community. There was a time when Jones was actually known as a key advocate of racial equality. Of course, nobody can ever forget the notorious Jonestown incident. Jones will forever be associated with that horrific day.
