An old Tzinquaw dance group
This Reddit user posted a photo of his father and uncles during their old Tzinquaw dance group days. Tzinquaw is a Native-American dance that saw a resurgence back in the late ’60s and ’70s. The word itself means “thunderbird” in the Hul’qumi’num language. It also represents the “highest spiritual power.” It also epitomizes law and protocol. These days, there are still Traditional Coast Salish dance groups that continue to perform the dance and ritual. They have even toured in North America, Asia, Europe, and South America.
