This image of Malcolm X taking a photograph of boxing legend Muhammad Ali was taken in February 1964. Ali had defeated Sonny Liston in what was their first match and was celebrating his world heavyweight title win. During the period, Malcolm X was one of the most prominent figures in the American black nationalist movement. He was good friends with Ali albeit only for a brief time. In Ali’s 2004 autobiography, he wrote that spurning Malcolm X “was one of the mistakes that I regret most in my life.”
