Helen had spent so many years as the wife of a pilot that she understood panicking wouldn’t solve the problem. She regained control of the plane and guided it back to a semi-level flying. Helen could attend to John now that the plane was at least steady.
Although she made every effort to revive him, she soon had to accept reality and accept the truth about what had happened. She stabilized her voice and called a mayday while tears rolled down her cheeks.
