The pain burning her body fired hotter, and she uttered a piercing scream. “We’re gonna be okay, ma’am,” the bleeding man assured her as he wrapped his hands around the steering wheel.
“Just breathe,” he stammered and winced. “We’ll make it if it’s the last thing we do today.” He turned on the car and shot back into the empty interstate.
