Dwight D. and Mamie Eisenhower
Mamie Doud met Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1915, at Fort Sam Houston, a military base located in San Antonio, Texas. The following year, Dwight proposed with his West Point class ring, and Mamie accepted. They wed on July 1, 1916 and had two children, John and Doud (Doud succumbed to scarlet fever at age 3). During Dwight’s presidency, Mamie became a fashion icon, inventing a shade called “first lady pink.”
