Doc’s Orders
When I hear stories of people who were told to get to the hospital right away, it reminds me of how my father’s life was saved in this way. Ten years ago, he caught what he thought was a bad case of the flu.
His mother came over to help take care of him and kept trying to get him to drink this sickly sweet Persian drink that’s supposed to help with illness.
So my father was involuntarily chugging sugar water when my uncle, a doctor who had come to our house to say hello, took one look at my dad and sent him to the hospital. When he got there, he was given some life-changing news: my dad found out that he had Type 2 diabetes.
