Real Life Medical Emergencies Caught Just in Time

When I was skiing in Europe, I fell and fractured my tibial plateau. I tried to ski to the bottom of the hill, but that didn’t work. I then tried to walk down, but that didn’t work either. I ended up sliding to the bottom of the hill on my butt and got picked up by someone down there.

They could clearly see that something wasn’t right with me, and suggested that I go see a doctor right away. I should have gone to the emergency room, but I had a flight home the next day. So I simply wrapped my knee in an ace bandage, iced it, and got a pair of crutches.

That was a big mistake. I flew back to the United States and went to see my primary care doctor the next day. She ordered an MRI. Turns out the injury was bad enough that the radiologist called my PCP during the MRI and said that there was a serious problem.

I ended up having to have surgery the next week. Story Credit: Reddit/P__Squared
