He Never Needed a Father
“So not my story, but my mates. His mum finally told him last year that his father didn’t leave them, that she was [abused]. The man was jailed, I can’t recall for how long, but now back in the world living in another state. His mum was very cool [and] diplomatic when she told him (he’d just turned 21). And said she understood if he had a compulsion to meet him, and had already made safe contact to the man in the off chance he did. Apparently his father/the [abuser] had done his best to change himself and she accepted that if didn’t forgive. Anyway my buddy was blown away and honestly a bit angry. But hugged his mumma and said he never needed a father, especially one that would hurt her. Asked if she regretted him. She told him he was the greatest thing that ever happened to her. They moved on.”
