On a Very Remote Native Reservation
“Not my story, but I used to live on a very remote native reservation in northern Canada. From what I understood, incest was quite common, as there was only about 6 – albeit, large – families in the community of ~1,500. I met a girl once who fell in love with her cousin. She got pregnant with his child, but miscarried when she fell on the ice. Another one of my friends knocked up his cousin, although he later on found out they were 3rd cousins. The general attitude toward incest in that community was somewhat lighthearted, joking, although stigma was definitely growing. Needless to say there’s some truth to Don Burnstick’s jokes about living on the rez and accidentally hooking up with your cousin.”
