Dr. Louis partook in many after-hours activities that were expensive and not exactly lawful. This left him in a lot of debt with the wrong sorts of people.
On the night in question, Louis was at home having a heated argument with one of these people. He was short to repay a major debt and the unsavory creditor was demanding that he find a way to repay what he owed.
