Being a product of the Emperor Justinian era of ancient Roman history, the church had already been a significant site prior to the new find.
The site was fragile and required a strategic plan. As much as the team were itching to reach the temple below, they had to figure out a way to do this without damaging or disturbing any of the delicate structures above it.
