The Frescos
The church’s walls and ceilings were painted with stunning frescos. The detail, skill, and dramatic appearance of the paintings were far too valuable to be damaged in any way.
Aside from their beauty, the frescos also possessed a unique and historically significant element too. They were designed as a complete record of the lifecycle of the revered figure in whose honor the church was built.
