“Respectfully, Get Plump with ‘FAT-TEN-U’”
Standards of beauty change almost every decade. One day, thin models are in and the next, curvy, big-boned ladies are preferred. This poster from 1891, clearly shows what was “in” back then. Professor Williams claimed that a woman had no need to “suffer tortures with inferior mechanical devices that artificially fatten.” He wanted women to buy his foods, which, according to the testimonial, allowed a user to gain 39 pounds in just four weeks. He urged women to shed their “inflationary devices and pads,” and go with FAT-TEN-U, to gain “much needed fleshiness.”
