The Cost of Having A Baby in 1943
Today the average cost of having a baby (without complications) is almost $11, 000 in the United States. If you factor before and after delivery care, the price can easily go up to $30, 000. Almost 80 years ago, the price was a mere $29.50, with the most expensive items being $10.00 for the delivery room and $10.50 for board and nursing. Even with inflation, the $29.50 of 1943 only amounts $435, so it’s basically a steal, no matter which moment in history you look at it.
