Babies On Airplanes in the 1960s

British Airways Speedbird Heritage Centre / CC

Traveling via airplane in the 1960s was quite popular, despite then-airplanes having not yet been perfected, especially where safety was concerned. Not only was a child placed in a makeshift cot on top of the parent’s head, but this cot also happened to be attached to luggage bin. This meant that if things got a little too bumpy, the baby and luggage could easily bounce out of place. Parents today would have nightmares just thinking about it. The airplanes were also much louder back then, so it wasn’t the easiest to get children to fall asleep.
