Air Stewardess Guidelines from the 1940s
The flight attendants that we’ve come to know today are kind professionals who are more than willing to cater to our requests while in the air. They seem to be very put-together people who always look perfectly dressed, equipped with smiles on their faces. The same was true back in the 1940s, except the rules were quite different. For one, flight attendants were only female. Two, they were expected to be beauty pageant beautiful and three, they had to attend a special school (a charm farm) to learn how to speak and act on an airplane. More of the outrageous rules can be found in this image from the past.
