The FBI’s Most Dangerous Song
The Kingsmen, a 1960s rock band from Portland, Oregon, got in trouble with the FBI and may have even ended up on the FBI’s most dangerous song list after they made a louder, more grunge version of Richard Berry’s 1957 song, Louie Louie. The FBI launched an investigation into the band’s song in 1964 after a parent wrote to Robert Kennedy, after listening to the song and being frightened of what the lyrics might be saying. The FBI looked into the band without paying attention to the original. The eventually concluded that the song’s lyrics were “unintelligible at any speed.”
