California’s Very First Drive-In Theater
Going to the movies today can seem like such a hassle. Despite the upgrades like 4D movies, which allow us to be rained upon, shaken by the chairs and even smell the asphalt on the screens before us, it still requires a lot of effort. You need to purchase tickets, arrive on time, buy snacks, put your phone on silent and stay silent yourself (hoping others do the same), all while trying to enjoy a movie. It was much different back when drive-ins were all the rage. For one, it only cost 25 cents per car and all you really had to do was pull up and park. This picture shows California’s very first drive-in theater. It was set up in Los Angeles and the year was 1935; the screen was said to be the world’s largest at the time.
