The First Meme, circa 1921
The Judge was a satirical magazine published weekly between 1881 and 1947. The first issue was 16 pages long, printed on quarto paper. Although the world didn’t know it yet, it would be one of the first memes to ever be published. The history of the 1920s shows that this kind of comedy was popular. In fact, some say that the cartoons of the era were the memes of that time. And it’s funny to see that even today, almost exactly 100 years later, how relatable this image still is.
