A McDonald’s Ad from 1961
McDonalds, one of the most well-known fast-food companies in the world, was founded in 1940 and has now become the world’s largest restaurant chain, by revenue. Pictured here is one of the ads the company put out, a few decades into the business. The ad claimed that a family of five could be fed for as little as $2.25. But the price shouldn’t be a surprise since food costs were way down in the early ‘60s and fast food was a popular option for many families; people were cooking less at home and the idea that nuclear families were perfect, was dissolving. McDonalds gave people options, even back then.
