They Were Being Threatened
When I was a kid, I lived in a subdivision of about 20 houses. Four houses away, a 30-year-old registered offender lived with his mother. When he was let out of prison, his mother had to go to each house and let the neighbors know what he was convicted of and that he was moving back in with her.
When she came to our house, my mom answered. The woman went on a rant about how rude it was that all the neighbors basically told her that if they saw her son anywhere close to their children, they would shoot him.
