The Gunshot Victim
As the man was wheeled into the operating room, Kathy learned only that this man was a beggar who had been shot by an unidentified assailant. Kathy didn’t even so much as glance at the man’s face as she began to extract the bullet from his stomach. She knew the surgery would be successful but wasn’t sure if the man would pull through.
