Looking Outside
“I am,” he responded, keeping eye contact with his teacher. Cassie could tell, however, that he was hiding something. His eyes were drawn to the window outside, where other kids were boarding the bus.
It appeared he had picked up something good outside, because he smiled, though slightly, and asked Cassie if he could leave.
“Of course,” she said, but she knew that this was far from over.
