Macy had to stifle a sigh when she heard Mr. Johnson’s reason for calling out her dress.
Her heartbeat slowed down, and she got ready to prove that wearing the dress wasn’t wrong on her part.
“Well, sir,” she said confidently. “I don’t have any direct relatives from there, but….” Mr. Johnson lifted one of his hands. “But nothing, Miss Everett,” he said. “No blood relation, no dress.”
