Mars, our neighbor red planet, has been the subject of many of those alternative theories. Some of them have even used NASA footage and photographs as alleged evidence. 

For example, in 1976, NASA’s Viking 1 spacecraft took a picture of what seemed to be a face on the surface of Mars. Immediately, this fostered the wildest speculations.
