Fighting For Freedom
Even though Atchison was in favor of religious freedom, he was not in favor of eliminating slavery. He opposed the Abolitionist movement, even vowing to punish anybody who opposed slavery in any way, shape, or form.
Atchison’s actions significantly impacted Kansas, adding to the already volatile situation.
