It Takes Three To Tango
We had a middle-aged lady come in with a gentleman. They asked for three menus. I went over to the table to introduce myself and asked if they were waiting for one more. The woman said no. She stated that her husband was with them. I wasn’t sure what she meant by that.
Those at the table then ordered drinks. When I came back to drop off their glasses, she said her “date” was in the bathroom. The lady explained to me that her husband had passed a few years ago and that this guy, a friend of hers, kept asking to go out.
So she reluctantly said yes but insisted that her deceased husband come with them. This is why they had three menus at the table. She instructed me to bring her husband up as often as possible and to act as if I knew him.
She also told me to make sure I asked if he was having anything for dinner when I took their dinner order. She would refer to him just as if he was sitting right there. I then heard her tell the guy that he tried too hard and that he was kind of mean.
