The event was originally conceptualized by a New York woman named Florence Rappaport. It was a means of entertaining her bored children whenever they had been snowed in. Eventually, it became an annual celebration that was held on the first Saturday in February. Needless to say, there weren’t many healthy options in the ’60s.
